Reproductive justice means the ability to have control over when, how and whether to have a child. To many, this means protecting women’s rights to birth control and abortion. But to me, it means so much more. It’s not just women that need legal protection and freedom to form a family in the manner they choose, it’s men too. Both women and men must have the right to choose when and how to become a parent.
What’s more, they need the right to choose what “kind” of parent to be. Parents today can be genetic (their DNA is in their child), parental (they raise their child), biological (they are pregnant with the child), or a combination of the three.
This non-exhaustive infographic shows some different means of family formation to illustrate how important it is that our laws are broad enough to accommodate the myriad reproductive choices we have before us.
